    Kiefer,
What are those other variations of the Carb Nite that you mention using with more serious athletes? I have both your books and from what I’ve read, I’m nervous about using your programs, particularly Carb Nite while playing college lacrosse 6 day a week in combination with high intensity weight lifting 3 times a week. I assume you’ve worked with college athletes before, any advice for me about to tweak your programs?

You didn’t mention your goals… Carb Nite has to do with forcing the body to become extremely lean (but makes muscle-building more difficult). As a college-age athlete doing that much training, unless you explicitly told me you were fat, I’d imagine you to be already pretty lean.

You’ll be better off following Carb Back-Loading on that kind of program. Carb Nite won’t allow you to play lacrosse at anywhere near top performance, whereas Carb Back-Loading will easily allow it as long as you are able to intake enough carbs to make up for all of that glycogen depletion.

Carb Back-Loading is more or less “carb nite for athletes”. You (personally) would just have to watch your energy levels and adjust your carb intake for the lacrosse.

Thanks for the help Naomi, that makes a lot of sense. I’m in very good condition from all the workouts and running we do but I’ve always had some baby fat around my sides that I could never take off(and always wanted to). Hopefully backloading will do the trick.
PS. Great work keeping up with all the blogs and answering questions, it’s really appreciated.

There was actually a great study that just came out that supports Kiefer’s claim of a calorie is not a calorie I believe. Martin mentioned it it was quite interesting.
